A charity event worthy of plenty of support is taking place on Saturday 11th August at Hazlemere Recreation Ground.

Organised by several of our HSFC members, there will be a 7-a-side football tournament taking place between 1pm and 5pm. Entry is by invitation only with up to 10 teams competing. Please come along to support the event. All proceeds are going to the Beating Bowel Cancer charity in memory of the late Steve Smith.

Many of you will have known Steve, who was hugely popular.  Steve was part of the first ever HT Juniors sides when just a handful of children played at the C of E school.  At the age of 15 he was then part of the first Hazlemere Sports FC adult side.  He played for the club every season.  He became an integral part of the team and could be seen regularly behind the bar (see picture below) as well as being club treasurer.

Following being diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer, Steve sadly passed away in June 2013.  He had begun to arrange a 12 hour football match to raise money for beating bowel cancer.

With the help of his friends and family an annual Smiffy’s Football Fun Day is held at the rec.  This year’s event will take place on the 11th August.

For more information or if you’re interested in entering a team, please send an email to

Please lend your support and be part of this special day.

Our good friends, the new Trustees at the Hazlemere Memorial Hall CIO, has kindly agreed to allow us to name the bar in the Ken Williams club room as ‘Smiffy’s Bar’. This is in memory of the hugely popular former committee member Steve Smith who sadly passed away in 2013. What’s more, the CIO Trustees have generously supplied a lovely new sign that is now in situ above the bar.

To mark the 5-year anniversary of Steve’s untimely death, we have arranged a special event when the sign will be officially unveiled. Members of Steve’s family will be in attendance as well as his numerous friends, including both past and present members of our football clubs. The evening will commence at 7pm which will include a raffle of various items to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer.

We also have an event page on Facebook which is at If you would like to attend, please contact
